The Temecula Valley girls volleyball team has been selected for the CIF Southern Section Division 1 playoffs for the second consecutive season.
The Golden Bears finished eighth in the final section rankings, and the Golden Bears (18-3) will host Oaks Christian (25-4) in a first-round match Wednesday at 6 p.m.
Last year, Temecula Valley was among the eight teams chosen for the section’s top division. With that came an automatic berth into the CIF State playoffs. That will not be the case this season. The Division 1 bracket has 12 teams, and only the eight teams that advance to the quarterfinal round will punch a ticket to the state playoffs.
A total of 73 Inland volleyball teams qualified for the postseason, either by earning an automatic playoff berth from their respective league or receiving an at-large entry.
Rancho Christian finished 13th in the final rankings, meaning the Eagles (28-4) secured the No. 1 seed in the Division 2 bracket. Rancho Christian opens the playoffs at home Tuesday evening against Rosary (23-9).
Nine other Inland teams received a top-four seeding in their respective playoff divisions.
Paloma Valley is seeded No. 2 in Division 4, while San Jacinto and Santiago are the No. 3 seed and No, 4 seed, respectively, in that division.
Corona won the Division 5 championship last season. The Panthers are the No. 2-seeded team in Division 5 this season. Alta Loma is the No. 3 seed in that division.
Ontario is the No. 1-seeded team in Division 7, while Cornerstone Christian is seeded No. 4 in that division. River Springs Magnolia is the top seed in Division 10, and Indian Springs is seeded No. 4 in that division.
