A Riverside County sheriff’s patrol car whose deputy was pursuing another car collided with an uninvolved vehicle in Perris on Saturday night, Nov. 1, authorities said.
The collision resulted in the deputy and the occupants of the Honda Civic being hospitalized with minor injuries, the California Highway Patrol said.
The situation unfolded just before 10 p.m. when deputies responded to the 300 block of Markham Street to investigate a report of people attempting to break in to a business, said Sgt. Robert Martinez, a sheriff’s spokesman. Dispatchers were told that one of them might have a gun.
Deputies arrived to see a car leaving the area, and when they tried to pull it over, the driver failed to stop, Martinez said.
During the chase, the patrol car, headed west on Ramona Expressway with its emergency lights and siren on, and the Honda, traveling south on Lake Perris Drive and turning left onto the eastbound Ramona Expressway, collided, said Officer Javier Navarro, a CHP spokesman.

Both cars suffered major damage. Navarro said the cause of the collision is under investigation.
The pursuit ended in the area of Rider Street and Old Evans Road, where four suspects ran from the car. Deputies, a sheriff’s K-9 and Riverside Police Department helicopter crew tracked down three of the suspects. A fourth was still being sought Monday, Martinez said.
