Redlands police arrested a 15-year-old boy suspected of armed robbery after they say he crashed a stolen car at the end of a police pursuit, injuring himself and two others.
Police spotted the teen, a Redlands resident, in the parking lot of the Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers restaurant in the 1400 block of West Lugonia Avenue on Sunday, Feb. 9, police spokesman Carl Baker said.
The car he was in, a 2017 Hyundai Elantra, had been reported stolen in West Covina near where a Kia stolen in Redlands had been found, Baker said. Police determined the Kia had likely been abandoned by the robbers who then stole the Hyundai.
The Kia had been identified as the suspect vehicle in two armed robberies in East Los Angeles and San Diego, Baker said.
Redlands police tried to stop the Hyundai, but the driver steered the car away, Baker said.
The pursuit went through the city at speeds up to 70 mph.
“The pursuit ended when the suspect ran a red light at the intersection of Fern Avenue and Cajon Street and collided with two other vehicles, causing the suspect vehicle to roll over several times,” Baker said. “All three drivers sustained minor injuries in the collision.”
The teen is a suspect in the robberies in East Los Angeles and San Diego, Baker said.
