
Bryan Wilson passed for 412 yards and five touchdowns and added 57 yards and a touchdown on the ground as Riverside City College outlasted Palomar College 62-49 in a National-Southern Conference game Saturday afternoon at Wheelock Stadium in Riverside.
The teams combined for a whopping 1,438 yards Saturday afternoon.
RCC (3-2, 1-1) finished the game with 819 yards, which is believed to be a program record. The Tigers kept things balanced, recording 412 yards through the air and another 407 yards on the ground.
Palomar led 14-7 after the first quarter, but RCC scored 28 straight points to take control of the contest.
Dominic Cox caught 14 passes for 232 yards and four touchdowns, and Kayvion Sibley led RCC’s ground attack with 204 yards and two touchdowns on 14 carries. Matthew Lashley intercepted two passes for the Tigers.
Palomar (1-4, 0-2) was led by Jakob Harris, who came off the bench to throw for 380 yards and five touchdowns while adding 52 yards and another score on the ground. Furious Hoskins caught eight balls for a school-record 291 yards and scored three touchdowns.
RCC has a bye this week and travels to Chaffey College for a conference game Saturday, Oct. 11.
SBVC ROLLS IN THE DESERT
Kane Richardson tossed two touchdown passes as San Bernardino Valley College cruised to a 50-14 victory over College of the Desert in a nonconference rivalry game played at Cathedral City High School.
The Wolverines (3-2) scored the first 34 points of the game.
Evan Copeland caught a pair of touchdown passes, and Jordan Ward returned an interception for a touchdown for SBVC.
Noah Vaughn-Israel threw two touchdown passes for COD (1-4).
SBVC has a bye and opens American-Pacific Conference play Saturday, Oct. 11 at Glendale.
MSJC COMES UP SHORT
El Camino College’s defense intercepted four passes Saturday, and the Warriors held on for a 31-27 victory over Mt. San Jacinto College in a National-Southern Conference game at HCN Bank Stadium in Menifee.
Anthony Delguidice had two of those interceptions for El Camino (4-1, 2-0), including one he returned for a touchdown.
Cole Vasquez led the way for MSJC (2-3, 0-2), passing for 153 yards and a touchdown and rushing for 103 yards and another score.
Damonte Bias led El Camino’s ground attack with 118 yards and a touchdown.
MSJC has a bye this and hosts Saddleback in conference action Thursday, Oct. 9.
CHAFFEY ROUTED ON THE ROAD
Tmario Walter, Jaden Humphrey and Roman Hardin all returned an interception for touchdowns as Saddleback College cruised to a 54-14 victory over Chaffey College in a National-Southern Conference game in Mission Viejo.
Tyler Dudden tossed three touchdown passes for Saddleback (4-1, 2-0).
Evan Powell passed for 136 yards and a touchdown for Chaffey (1-4, 0-2).
Chaffey has a bye and hosts Riverside City College in conference action Saturday, Oct. 11.
REDLANDS DROPS RIVALY GAME
JD Sumlin ran for two touchdowns as Cal Lutheran defeated University of Redlands 27-10 in a SCIAC opener at Ted Wheeler Stadium in Redlands.
The victory is the first for Cal Lutheran (3-0) in the Smudge Pot Rivalry series since the 2013 season.
Redlands (2-1) took a 3-0 lead in the opening quarter on a 28-yard field goal by Aidan Petruescu, but Cal Lutheran scored the next 20 points to take control of the game.
Toby Schmidt tossed a touchdown to Scott Blankenship in the fourth quarter for the Bulldogs’ lone touchdown of the game.
Redlands travels to Chapman for a SCIAC game Saturday, Oct. 11.
LA VERNE ROUTED BY CHAPMAN
Fischer Huss ran for 113 yards and two touchdowns as Chapman routed La Verne 56-6 in a SCIAC opener in Orange.
Andrew Latu also scored twice on the ground for Chapman (1-2).
Ahmias Hart tossed a 54-yard touchdown to Jimmy Rumsey in the third quarter for the lone touchdown scored by La Verne (0-2).
La Verne hosts Pomona-Pitzer in a SCIAC game Saturday, Oct. 11.
