FRIDAY’S TOP GAMES
Mater Dei (2-0) at Centennial (2-1), 7 p.m.
IE Varsity info: This will be the 16th showdown between these national powers. Centennial once owned a 5-3 edge in the series, but Mater Dei has won seven straight meetings, including two last season (42-25 in the regular season and 36-7 in the playoffs). Centennial cruised to a 4-26 victory over Bingham (Utah) last week. Dominick Catalano has passed for 746 yards and eight touchdowns, and running back Malachi Davis has scored a team-high four touchdowns. Safety Jaden Walk-Green leads the defense with 35 tackles and two interceptions and also handles kicking and punting duties. Mater Dei is coming off a 21-18 win over Kahuku (Hawaii). Ryan Hopkins has passed for 393 yards, and 6-foot-5 receiver Chris Henry presents a matchup problem for opposing defenses. The game will be televised live on Spectrum 1 and Spectrum SportsNet.

Chaparral (0-2) at Rancho Cucamonga (1-2), 7 p.m.
IE Varsity info: Chaparral is seeking its first win after suffering close losses to San Juan Hills (38-33) and San Clemente (35-34). Dane Weber has passed for 622 yards and seven touchdowns and added two scores on the ground. Eli Woodward caught seven passes for 174 yards and four touchdowns last week, and Trevor Schneider led the ground attack for the Pumas with 150 yards and 17 carries. Linebacker Logan Coleman has registered 25 tackles. Rancho Cucamonga picked up its first victory last week, a 14-3 triumph over Oak Hills. Jacob Chambers has tossed four touchdown passes this year, three to wide receiver Tyree Wilson. Cougars defensive back Andre Johnson II returned an interception for a touchdown in last week’s win.

Bishop Amat (2-1) at Vista Murrieta (2-0), 7 p.m.
IE Varsity info: Vista Murrieta opened the campaign with wins over Great Oak (47-25) and Murrieta Mesa (35-17) before taking its bye last week. Bryson Beaver has passed for 472 yards and four touchdowns, and Damarii Booth has paced the ground attack for the Broncos with 304 yards and five touchdowns. Linebacker Brennan Martinez is the veteran leader of the defense. Bishop Amat bounced back from a loss to Oak Hills with a 42-38 victory over Valencia. Ryan Salcedo leads the ground attack for the Lancers with 488 yards and eight touchdowns. Brayden Wann, who played at Eisenhower last year, is the team’s quarterback.

Norco (3-0) at Etiwanda (2-1), 7 p.m.
IE Varsity info: Norco remained unbeaten with a 28-24 victory over Orange Vista last week at SoFi Stadium. Julian Medina has passed for 882 yards and 11 touchdowns, and Blake Wong has caught 26 passes for 505 yards and eight scores. Lee White has emerged as the top ground threat for the Cougars with 236 yards and three touchdowns. Linebacker Henderson Carter V leads the defense with two interceptions. Etiwanda looks to bounce back after last week’s 34-19 loss at Cajon. Keegan Campuzano has thrown for 537 yards and three touchdowns, and Jaleel Sutton has rushed for 369 yards and two scores. Linebacker Drew Toki leads the Eagles on defense with 20 tackles.

Murrieta Valley (1-1) at Murrieta Mesa (2-1), 7 p.m.
IE Varsity info: Murrieta Valley has won the previous 15 meetings in this crosstown series, including a decisive 42-0 victory last season. Murrieta Valley took its bye last week after dropping a 56-35 decision to Servite. Ty Isaia has gotten a majority of snaps at the quarterback and thrown for 407 yards and four touchdowns. Derrick Johnson II has caught four touchdown passes on offense and is one of the area’s top defensive backs. Linebacker Joseph Rodriguez leads the Nighthawks on defense with 23 tackles. Murrieta Mesa bounced back from a loss to Vista Murrieta with a 35-7 win over Rancho Verde last week. Daniel Ritchie leads the ground attack for the Rams with 229 yards and two touchdowns and also stars on defense at linebacker. Another linebacker, Chris Flores, leads the team with 29 tackles.

Beaumont (3-0) at Chaminade (1-2), 7 p.m.
IE Varsity info: Beaumont remained unbeaten with a 41-14 victory over Summit last week. Jeremiah Duhu has passed for 556 yards and eight touchdowns and added 205 yards and two scores on the ground. Braedon Miller has hauled in 18 catches for 356 yards and five touchdowns. Linebacker Matthew Casas leads the Cougars on defense with 27 tackles. Chaminade looks to bounce back from a 46-3 drubbing at the hands of Servite. Cameron Pooley has passed for 464 yards and five touchdowns, and Marquis Jones spearheads the ground attack with 246 yards. Defensive end Michael Bonnett leads the Eagles with four sacks.
Prediction: Beaumont
Bonita (0-3) vs. San Dimas (3-0) at Mt. San Antonio College, 7 p.m.
IE Varsity info: This marks the 53rd edition of the Smudge Pot rivalry game. Bonita has won six straight meetings — including a 47-7 win last year — and now holds a 27-24-1 edge in the series. Bonita is coming off a 35-13 loss to Aquinas last week. The Bearcats received bad news earlier this week when running back / linebacker Joseph Lara was lost for the season with a meniscus injury. Jacob Maddox leads the team with 12 catches for 212 yards and two touchdowns. Linebacker Isaiah Lazarus has registered a team-high 28 tackles. San Dimas cruised to a 34-13 victory over Colony last week. The Saints have a potent ground attack, led by Liam Loyola (374 yards, three TDs) and Jacob Gallegos (273 yards, four TDs). Bonita’s record includes a loss by forfeit, while San Dimas has picked up one win by forfeit.
