Three Claremont police officers fatally shot a man armed with a knife who allegedly rushed at police over the weekend, an investigator said Monday, July 21.
Likune Sisay, 46, of Claremont later died at a hospital, according to the medical examiner’s office.
None of the officers were injured, said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Lt. Daniel Vizcarra.
The shooting happened on the 2600 block of Monticello Road on Saturday, July 19. That location is north of the 210 Freeway; west of Mills Avenue and north of Miramar Avenue.
Claremont Police received a call around 6 a.m. about a man who was suicidal and wanting to harm his family, Vizcarra said.
When police attempted to detain the man, he produced a knife and rushed toward at least two officers, the lieutenant said. Three officers fired.
A knife was found at the scene, Vizcarra said. He declined to describe the knife.
The man’s family wasn’t injured, he added.
The Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau is investigating the shooting.
