
A 16-year-old boy from Rancho Cucamonga is dead after being hit by a car while riding a motorized scooter in the city, authorities said.
The crash happened around 1:36 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 8 at Milliken Avenue near the intersection of Central Park.
According to a San Bernardino County sheriff’s news release, the 56-year-old driver of a Volkswagen approached the intersection when she collided with the teen crossing the roadway.
He was taken to Pomona Valley Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The boy’s identity was not immediately disclosed.
The collision remains under investigation. Alcohol and drugs are not believed to be a factor.
The collision happened amid continuing concerns about the safety of motorized scooters and e-bikes.
On Sept. 29, a hit-and-run driver killed 34-year-old Gary Schombert as he rode a scooter in Panorama City. Police arrested 30-year-old Daniel Casillas of Arleta on suspicion of felony hit-and-run in the case.
Also that month, a box truck hit and injured two women on electric scooters in Fullerton.
