By MICHAEL CASEY, Associated Press BOSTON (AP) — A federal judge on Friday blocked the Trump administration from enacting a policy that bans the use of “X” marker used by many nonbinary people on passports as well as the changing of gender markers. In an executive order signed in January, the president used a narrow definition of the sexes instead of a broader conception of gender. The order says a person is male or female and it rejects the idea that someone can transition from the sex assigned at birth to another gender. The framing is in line with many…

The Clippers were projected to win 30 games this season, maybe 35 tops. And who could blame fans and experts for their prediction. Kawhi Leonard was on the shelf indefinitely because of knee issues. All-Star Paul George was gone, having signed a free agent deal with the Philadelphia 76ers. Norman Powell was slated to be the starting guard, a role he had not played with the Clippers. And James Harden was a year older. The Clippers, though, proved the doubters wrong, having notched 50 wins with an aging roster, several new faces and a revitalized Leonard. The Clippers (50-32) eventually…

The mother of Rialto Unified school board member Edgar Montes has resigned her position as a Nutrition Services worker for the district following a Southern California News Group inquiry about Montes’ vote to hire her two years ago. Montes said in an email that his act was “inadvertent” and not a conflict of interest in violation of the Political Reform Act. But he did say that, “under governing law,” his mother should resign. Montes’ action violated school board bylaws regarding conflict of interest, which clearly state, “Even if there is not a prohibited conflict of interest, a Board member shall…

Tariffs, a fluctuating stock market and the Los Angeles County firestorms are rippling through the Southern California housing market, where local agents are seeing sales flatten and bidding wars becoming scarce. The inventory of homes for sale is up as home shoppers become more hesitant, agents say. “Some people worry they’ll lose their job,” said Huntington Beach agent Lily Campbell. Because of falling stock market prices, “they don’t have enough down payment.” New numbers from real estate data firm Attom show that February home sales in Southern California were down slightly from a year ago, which already was the second-slowest year…

By NICHOLAS RICCARDI, Associated Press The American Civil Liberties Union on Friday asked two federal judges to order the Trump administration not to deport any Venezuelans held in northern Texas under an 18th century wartime law, contending that immigration authorities appeared to be moving to restart removals despite the U.S. Supreme Court’s restrictions on how it can use the act. The group has already sued to block deportations under the Alien Enemies Act of 1798 of two Venezuelans held in the Bluebonnet Detention Center and is asking a judge to issue an order barring removals of any immigrants in the…

EL SEGUNDO — The Lakers announced on Friday they had promoted Rob Pelinka to the organization’s president of basketball operations and extended his contract. By CHRIS MEGERIAN WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump is preparing to make one of the controversial personnel changes laid out in the conservative Project 2025 blueprint for his second term. He plans to reclassify 50,000 federal employees under what’s known as Schedule F, which means they’ll have less civil service protection. The proposal follows an executive order signed at the beginning of his term, and it’s expected to be published in the Federal Register on Friday afternoon. Trump announced the move on social media before the rule was published Friday. “If these government workers refuse to advance the policy…
