A 58-year-old woman died Thursday night, Oct. 9, when her mobile home in Bloomington caught fire, the San Bernardino County Fire Department said.
The Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Sherri D. Horan. One of her dogs also perished, the Fire Department said.
The home did not have working smoke detectors, said engineer Ryan Beckers, a Fire Department spokesman.
The fire was reported around 10:30 p.m. in the 10000 block of Laurel Avenue. Firefighters discovered the home, surrounded by debris, equipment and vehicles, ablaze down a long driveway, a news release said. Firefighters cut their way in and discovered Horan in a back bedroom. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Two dogs were found alive outside. No firefighters were reported injured.
Investigators believe that the fire originated in the debris and spread to the home, Beckers said, although the cause of the ignition was under investigation. The fire was extinguished in about 25 minutes.
It wasn’t clear how much having to wade through the debris delayed the firefighters, but Beckers encouraged residents to keep their property clean.
“Having a clear path to the outside is crucial not only for us but for you,” Beckers said.
