Jared Doolittle completed 20 of 34 passes for 342 yards and four touchdowns as the Riverside City College football team overcame mistakes and outlasted College of the Canyons 57-54 on Saturday in a nonconference game in Santa Clarita.
RCC (2-1) turned the ball over six times Saturday afternoon, including four interceptions by Doolittle.
Doolittle tossed two touchdowns passes to Ross Nickson III in the opening quarter (14 and 36 yards), and Jonathan Marshall scored on a 6-yard run to help RCC take a 21-7 lead after one period.
Nickson finished the game with six receptions for 124 yards and three touchdowns, while Dominic Cox had five catches for 149 yards and a touchdown. Jayvion Shipley led the ground attack for the Tigers with 149 yards and a touchdown on 13 carries.
Canyons made a late comeback but ran out of time. Isaiah Ramirez ran for 182 yards and a touchdown, and Jazel Riley threw a touchdown pass and added three more scores on the ground.
RCC hosts Saddleback College in a National-Southern Conference opener Saturday, Sept. 20 at noon.
WOLVERINE DEFENSE HAS RECORD-SETTING NIGHT
San Bernardino Valley College set a program record Saturday by allowing only 21 yards of offense as the Wolverines routed Compton College 70-0 in a nonconference game in San Bernardino.
The previous record was 33 yards allowed (1992 vs. Chaffey College).
SBVC (2-1) scored six touchdowns in the opening quarter, four on offense and two more on defense to take a 41-0 advantage.
Roman Aguirre passed for 133 yards and three touchdowns to lead the way for the Wolverines. Kane Richardson threw a touchdown and added another score on the ground.
SBVC hosts Victor Valley College in a nonconference game Saturday, Sept. 20 at 6 p.m.
MSJC CRUISES TO VICTORY
William Ford ran for two touchdowns as Mt. San Jacinto College knocked off Orange Coast College 42-14 in a nonconference game Saturday at HCN Bank Stadium in Menifee.
MSJC (2-1) raced out to a 29-0 lead after the opening quarter.
Julian Silva threw for 237 yards and a touchdown for the Eagles, and Cole Vasquez passed for 99 yards and a touchdown and added another 85 yards and a score on the ground. Dante Sims finished with seven receptions for 105 yards and a touchdown.
MSJC travels to Southwestern College for a National-Southern Conference opener Saturday, Sept. 20 at 1 p.m.
CHAFFEY FALLS IN FINAL MINUTE
Jude Hooks tossed a 27-yard touchdown pass to Sirawn Evans with 1 minute remaining on the clock to lift Moorpark College to a 27-23 victory over Chaffey College in a nonconference game Saturday in Rancho Cucamonga.
Chaffey (1-2) trailed 20-10 early in the fourth quarter, but the Panthers grabbed the lead after Evan Powell scored on runs of 9 yards (5:32 remaining) and 38 yards (2:35 remaining).
Powell passed for 115 yards and added 65 yards on the ground.
Chaffey heads to El Camino College for a National-Southern Conference opener Saturday, Sept. 20 at 6 p.m.
