One person died and six were injured after a multi-vehicle crash Wednesday night, April 16, that was expected to shut down a Downtown Riverside road for hours.
At around 6:15 p.m., one vehicle hit another, causing a chain reaction and involving multiple other vehicles around Mission Inn Avenue and Market Street, according to Office Ryan Railsback, a spokesman for the Riverside Police Department.

The driver of one of the vehicles hit was taken to a hospital, where they were pronounced dead. Six other people had injuries ranging from minor to moderate. Police couldn’t immediately confirm how many vehicles were involved in the crash.
Before the fatal crash, the suspected hit-and-run vehicle hit multiple parked cars in the area of 5th and Market streets and continued traveling.
Police detained a suspect.
Market Street with be closed in both directions between Mission Inn Avenue and 5th Street while the investigation continues.
