The Redlands Bicycle Classic kicked into high gear Wednesday, April 9, with the first of more than a dozen races planned over a five-day period.
The 39th Classic opened with the Lake Perris Time Trials for women and men, an 11.2-mile race at the Lake Perris Recreation Area. Events continue daily through Sunday at various locations in the region.
In addition to the loop around the Perris reservoir, this year’s courses include a mountain climb along Highway 38 and a fun ride that will take riders as far as Yucaipa and Oak Glen.

Organizers expect more than 35,000 participants and spectators at this year’s events. Here’s a look at some of the schedule highlights:
Thursday, April 10: The Trex Onyx Summit Road Race starts at Hangar 24 and ends on Highway 38 at Onyx Summit.
Friday, April 11: The Redlands Community Hospital Sand Canyon Circuit Race starts and finishes on Sand Canyon Road, north of Crafton Hills Drive.
Saturday, April 12: The Redlands community gets in on the action with the traditional Stater Bros. Charities Public Races and School Duel, the latter a race for area school children, as well as the SERVPRO Legends’ Fondo by Ride Yourself Fit.
Sunday, April 13: The day starts with the Crafton Hills College 5k Run and Family Fun Walk at 7 a.m., followed by one of the most popular events, the Shimano Criterium in downtown Redlands.
