BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The Titans were on the road Saturday afternoon to face CSU Bakersfield at the Icardo Center. The two teams met for the second time this season with the previous matchup going in Bakersfield’s direction with a slim 71-68 victory. Cal State Fullerton, 6-21 overall, came into tonight’s matchup looking to improve on their 1-13 conference record. The Titans struggled to knockdown buckets all night in the their 91-54 loss Saturday night.
Kobe Young opened up the contest looking to be aggressive. Young scored two of his nine first-half points with a put-back layup off of the Antwan Robinson miss to tie the game at 2-2.
Keith Richard continued his hot shooting from beyond the arc, hitting his first 3-point attempt from the top of the key with the assist beng credited to Robinson. This pushed the Titans out to their only lead of the game, 7-6.
CSU Bakersfield adjusted to a full-court press that shifted the pace of the game in the Roadrunners’ favor. Fullerton went scoreless the following 4:04 before Richard’s no-look dime to Antwan Richardson broke the dry spell at 17-9 with 11:49 left in the opening half.
The Titans went into the intermission down 50-27 thanks to Bakersfield shooting 50 percent from the field and 46 percent from beyond the arc.
The Titans opened up the half on an 8-4 run that was highlighted by Kendrick De Luna’s back-to-back fade away jumpers to bring the Titans to a 56-35 deficit.
Young was determined to do everything in his power to keep his team in the contest, and it showed with a furious dunk off an offensive rebound with 11:58 remaining in the game.
Although the Titans struggled offensively, Fullerton showed glimpses of brilliance on the defensive end when Young elevated for a huge block on Jemel Jones.
Cal State Fullerton finished the game shooting 36 percent in their 91-54 loss Saturday afternoon.
Young led the way for the Titans with 16 points, 13 rebounds and one block for his second double-double of the season.
Donovan Oday continued with his consistent contribution of 13 points and 6 boards.
The Titans are back at it again on Thursday, Feb. 20 in Santa Barbara to take on UC Santa Barbara at the UCSB Events Center at 7:00 p.m. Catch the game streaming on ESPN+.
