Dreibholz Reaches 80 Career Wins
MALIBU – The No. 9 California beach volleyball team opened the 2025 season with a pair of sweeps over Vanguard and CSU Bakersfield at the Pepperdine Challenge Friday afternoon.
The Golden Bears (2-0) did not lose a single set on opening day winning all 10 matchups handedly. They held their opponents to single digits in eight of the 20 sets played.
Ella Dreibholz got her senior season off to a great start earning a pair of wins with fellow senior Ella Sears to become just the third Bear in program history to reach 80 career wins. She is now just two wins shy of tying Ainsley Radell for second all-time and needs just four more to become Cal’s all-time wins leader.
Junior Portia Sherman and sophomore Emma Donley, who teamed up and won the 2025 BNTDP Jr. Pan Am Trials less than a month ago, made their debut as a collegiate pair in the top spot for the Bears.
Senior Alexandria Young-Gomez and junior Marilu Pally picked up wins on both courts two and three and are now 8-0 as a pair.
Cal is back at the Pepperdine Beach Courts tomorrow to take on the host Waves (1-1) and No. 10 Long Beach State (2-0) in back-to-back matches beginning at 9 a.m. PT.
