A motorist was shot and killed on Monday afternoon, Oct. 27 following an altercation in Colton.
Police responded around 12:35 p.m. to reports of a shooting near North Rancho Avenue and West Valley Boulevard, according to the Colton Police Department.
When officers arrived, they found a man, later identified as 40-year-old Armando Andrez Cayetano of San Bernardino, suffering from life-threatening injuries. He was taken to a nearby hospital, where he died from his wounds, police said in a news release.
Investigators determined that Cayetano had been involved in an argument with another driver that escalated into violence. The shooter fled the scene before officers arrived, police said.
Detectives later identified Lorens Cota, 19 of Bloomington, as the suspect. He was arrested Monday evening and booked into the West Valley Detention Center, where he is being held without bail.
As of Tuesday evening, it wasn’t clear what led to the altercation, if the two drivers knew each other, or if the confrontation was the result of road rage.
